A premiere look at the teams in Houston TX.

Houston, TX – Vype Sports has once again excelled this year by hosting an impressive girls’ basketball tournament, providing coaches the opportunity to connect with their teams while allowing scouts to gain valuable insights into the upcoming season. The event is expertly organized and directed by Ashley Turrentine, who consistently demonstrates her exceptional ability to orchestrate a smoothly run tournament.

The atmosphere was electric as all the key players in the girls’ basketball community gathered for the event. Top teams from Houston and the surrounding areas competed with the intensity of a playoff game. This year promises to be a transformative one for Houston girls’ basketball, marked by significant changes, including player transfers to different schools, among other developments.

Cy Springs is no stranger to playoff and state appearances. In recent years, they have consistently entered the playoffs as a top seed, successfully reaching the state tournament this season. Two years ago, an injury to one of their star players led to their elimination in the regional finals. However, last year, with a formidable roster that included five-star recruit Ayla McDowell, who now plays at Dawn Staley’s South Carolina, they made a strong showing. This season, Cy Springs remains one of the premier teams in the city, boasting a highly skilled lineup. I anticipate they will once again secure a high seed for the upcoming playoffs.

Kinkaid’s girls basketball program stands out as a formidable force in the private school arena. Under the expert guidance of Coach Marshall, this team of elite athletes is poised for a successful season, with high expectations in the private school rankings. Key players like Lauen Hull, Ma’Ryiah Alfred, and Sydney Marshall bring a combination of athleticism, scoring ability, and defensive prowess that makes them a challenging opponent. As the season unfolds, Kinkaid is sure to be a team to watch, and defeating them will prove to be a significant challenge for their rivals.

When discussing girls’ basketball in Houston, the Summer Creek Lady Bulldogs are impossible to overlook. With their rallying cry of “WHO LET THE DOGS OUT – WHOOOP WHOOP WHOOOP!” they are proving to be more formidable than ever. The influx of talent feeding into this program seems limitless, ensuring their return to the playoffs is all but guaranteed. After making a strong showing at last year’s state tournament in San Antonio, they are poised for another successful run under the leadership of Coach Kiara Marshall. Known for their lightning-fast guards who excel in both defense and attacking the paint, this year’s team also boasts added size in the lineup. Their uptempo style of play, characterized by a fast-paced offense, positions them as a top contender once again this season.

Hightower is a key contender in Houston girls basketball this season, poised for an impressive run. With a remarkable coach at the helm and the recent addition of 5-star point guard A’Zyua Blair, the team is set to make waves. Blair, a Division 1 prospect, is among my favorite players in the city and has the potential to elevate this already talented squad to state championship contention. Hightower boasts a strong lineup with size, skilled guards, quickness, and solid defensive capabilities, all under expert coaching.

Dawson has established itself as a formidable program, poised to make a significant impact this season. With all the essential elements in place for a championship run, they are ready to showcase their talent. Faith Etienne, a 5-star recruit, stands out as one of the top players in the city, known for her explosive skills and ability to dominate on the court. Additionally, Kendall Ford is expected to make substantial contributions to the team’s success. Anticipation is high for what this team will achieve, and if they perform as expected, other teams will certainly have their work cut out for them.

Shadow Creek boasts a roster filled with impressive talent, including standout player Courtland Cloud, a 2027 prospect. Transferring from St. Pius, this will be her first season competing at a public school, and she is already being recognized as a Division 1 prospect. Cloud is a versatile guard capable of scoring from all three levels, and her unique skill set, combined with her length, enhances her defensive capabilities. Her addition to the team is certainly exciting, and I look forward to seeing how she contributes this season.

Other teams to keep an eye on is Barber’s HIll. Oh yea baby they will something to reckon with again this season. A team we don’t enough about is Willowridge. They are a talented group with some raw talent that will surprise you if you slipping. C.E. King will be back again this season as one of our premiere top team in the city. Grand Oaks and Tomball will compete. They are teams that we have to be sure to catch more games but they had pretty decent seasons last year so I suspect they will do very well in their district.

Lets go girls basketball, I can’t wait for the season to start. I’m feeling good about it.
