NCAA LIVE SESSION I: HEART OF TEXAS
By LaQuita Thompson
Dallas, TX – Everything is BIG in TEXAS! including girls basketball. This past weekend marked the kick-off to the first NCAA live viewing session across the country, an event that draws coaches’ attention to the Lone Star State each April. The Heart of Texas tournament is a staple showcase known for featuring some of the best girls’ teams in the nation and filling the sidelines with coaches from every level.
This year’s primetime event included the Select 40 and POWER 24 tournaments, upping the ante on an already competitive field. Clubs from the West Coast like Jason Kidd Select and ML20 Lady Enforcers brought their most talented rosters to flaunt superstar prospects. Colorado teams also brought the heat, but the Texas teams held their own on home court. The radar was red-hot with rising, newly discovered talents as the hype surrounding some of the Top 100 kids proved real. Precision passing and lockdown defense were on display as these elite athletes left it all on the court.
The packed gyms pulsated with energy as players battled for bragging rights. In the end, it was the fundamentals that won games: footwork, rebounding and court vision. The Heart of Texas more than lived up to its BIG reputation, kickstarting the live NCAA viewing season with a can’t-miss display of girls basketball talent.
