Live coverage of Westside vs Cy Springs girls basketball

Christmas Holiday girls basketball action

Before heading out for the Christmas break we decided to catch some live action in girls basketball. Westside High School was the perfect gym to enter.  Westside girls team is a well coached team. They do a good job at executing their offense, patiently moving the ball around to get what they are looking for.

Their point guard #13 Stephanie Gregory is a good floor general. She gets the team where they should be, pushes the ball up court, takes smart shots and knows when to attack the basket. Westside also plays tough defense with their full and half court press sets. They caused Cy Springs lots of trouble bringing the ball down which for them turned into easy buckets. I love players that play intense defense 100%, dive for loose balls, create steals and get stops. I’m not sure of how many steals Westside had but I know it was a a significant amount.

#1 Kayla Pilson is a very good defender. She is active all the time, pressuring her opponent constantly. She alone created several steals and finished with lay ups. She has good speed and extremely aggressive.

#31 Jessica Soders is another aggressive player for Westside. She is a very strong, athletic young player. You’ll see her at the top of the press trapping the ball causing havoc. She uses her strength to get to the basket and pull down rebounds.

#2 Jordon Lewis is another player who caught my eye. She is a sophomore with nice potential.

Don’t get me wrong by all of this Westside talk, Cy Springs has some talent on that team, young talent at that.

I was impressed with #15 Zaria Johnson, freshman Post. She has good size on her and while she is still getting stronger, she did an absolutely great job boxing out and rebounding. She may look like she can’t handle a lot of contact but trust me she can hold her own. Her upside is HUGE! I’m looking forward to watching her develop into a great talent here in Houston. College coaches put her on your list.

#10 Tiffany Mack is another young player with Cy Springs with some size, 6-0. She is tough in the paint, gets rebounds, mid-range shots, block shots. She has a long body like Johnson with wide wing span that makes it hard to shoot over them or finish in the paint with them near. I love these two players and they will be on my radar without a doubt. Cy Springs guard action isn’t as strong as Westside but collectively they are role players and can make things work when given the right opportunity.

The game was a close game from beginning to the end with Cy Springs making a run in the second half. It was a good match up before going on break. Below is the link to the live broadcast of this game. Thank you for watching and contact us if you are interested in our team covering your game.
