Ontario, CA – The west coast is often overlooked when it comes to girls basketball talent, with the spotlight usually focused on the east coast powerhouses. But make no mistake, there is a rising beast brewing in California that has the potential to shake up the national landscape.

Grassroots girls basketball throughout the Golden State has been steadily gaining momentum, cultivating skilled players through club teams, camps, and clinics. While scouts have not consistently had eyes on this blossoming market, California has been quietly building an arsenal of athletic, gritty, and passionate female ballers.

The inner-city blacktops of LA and Oakland are producing shifty guards with handles as tight as their braids. The suburban gyms of San Diego and Sacramento are packed with fundamentally-sound forwards who live for box-outs and mid-range jumpers. And the rural heartland of the Central Valley features farm-strong centers ready to bang in the post.

These SoCal ballers bring both flare and focus, hustle and heart. As the rest of the nation keeps sleeping on the left coast, the Cali girls put in work, united by a love of the game and a chip on their shoulder.

They are ready to take the court by storm and shock their east coast competition. So keep an eye on this burgeoning hotbed of girls hoops that is rising in the Golden State. The west coast has talent, and soon the whole basketball world will know it.

The exciting event was presented by HER GAME, a new brand dedicated to empowering young female athletes. Founded by a former basketball and softball standout, HER GAME’s innovative style shined through in their showcase of talented 4th-8th grade girls.

These impressive young players hailed from across California, with many competing on popular AAU circuits and earning recognition as future west coast phenoms. For such young athletes, their poise and skill were remarkable.

Typically, girls in the 4th-6th grade range are still grasping the fundamentals and coordination needed for high-level basketball. Yet this extraordinary group exhibited advanced abilities far beyond their years, dazzling the crowd with fluid teamwork, crisp passes, and smooth jump shots.

Their fundamentals were sound, footwork precise, and court vision sharp. These poised young stars had clearly put in diligent work improving their craft. Their passion and dedication at such a young age was inspiring. The HER GAME founder has built an amazing platform to nurture the next generation of female hoopers. The future certainly looks bright for these talented athletes and for women’s basketball as a whole!

Our organization evaluated roughly 80-90 aspiring young female athletes throughout the day. After taking the court, we held an informative session for the players’ parents to educate them on the evaluation, scouting, and recruiting processes that their daughters would soon embark on, emphasizing how the landscape of women’s basketball recruiting has rapidly evolved with the new era of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals allowing student-athletes to profit from their success.

Based on the skill level demonstrated, it was clear the participants were a cut above average for their age groups. The girls were organized into teams of 8-10 that competed in single-game scrimmages officiated by local collegiate players and talented high school upperclassmen serving as coaches.

Each age division was allotted its own designated timeslot for evaluation by our scouting staff, who took diligent notes and provided individual assessment sheets for the players to take home afterwards.

To document the exciting event, we had a photographer and videographer from the HER GAME media group on-site capturing footage and stills.

The PASS THA BALL organization also partnered with the event to provide great action photos and more footage for the participants. Overall, the showcase allowed these motivated young athletes to display their abilities before scouts and take the first step on their basketball journeys.

This will be a staple for me annually to attend. See ya next year!
