2016 HISD Girls Tournament
By LaQuita Thompson 12/6/16
HISD girls varsity tournament took place this year showcasing talent from across the district. I attended the championship rounds for both the Gold and Silver pools and I must say I watched some pretty good raw talent compete. Jasmine Smith 2018 with Kinkaid had a spectacular championship game also winning the MVP award, Alexis Johnson , Indiana commit, from Kinkaid turned it up a notch and made All-Tournament team.I was very impressed with how much she has improved her game and confidence on the court, good job Alexis.Chinaza Nvdee did a great job using her strength to get rebounds for second shots, too bad the basketball world will lose her to volleyball next year. Brandolyn WalkerandYumonSimienof Madison played some hard nose aggressive basketball causing every team they competed against some serious havoc. Lutheran North surprised me with two skilled guards in Sable Barnes and Cydney Rivera. Victory Prep is also a school with some good young players like Asia Broughtonwho is scoring in double figures game in and game out. Aldine has a team that works hard together, most of the players are young with only 2 seniors. The last four teams standing for the championship rounds were Kinkaid, Bellaire, Lutheran North, and Aldine. The list of players below are my top best performers, tournament MVP’s and All Tournament teams of the tournament.
